Hi... would anyone know why this month my wages are decreased by€10 per week? Only happened for the first time in a yesr last week. Asked employer but they don’t know why?
Tried revenue but can’t get through?
Thanks

Compare your last payslip of 2018 with your first of 2019 and see where the differences are. There are a number of reasons this may have happened. e.g your pension contributions are indexed and increase by a percentage every year.

Have a look here

Have your tax credits changed? The Revenue can adjust your tax credits if you have another income etc.

You should particularly check on your current payslip for the following (especially if values have gone down):

1. Has your tax credit amount changed compared to last year?
2. Has your 'cut-off' amount changed compared to last year?
3. Is there a reference to "Emergency" (possibly signalled by the letter 'E' printed on the details section of your payslip) for the tax basis/ tax calculation method on your payslip? The usual basis is 'Normal' ('N') and another possible method is 'W1/M1'.

PAYE modernisation might also be a factor here if some notification wasn't received from the employer on time.

Does your employer pay your health insurance ? You may need to re apply for the tax credit.

Log onto MyAccount on revenue website and check that all your credits are up to date. Dh pays income continuance insurance (income protection) and gets tax relief but has to update with revenue each year, for example. Your employer will just import your tax credit details from revenue so it's fair that they will assume the details are correct. Definitely check December payslip against January and see where the difference lies.
