Hi There,
I have a US online account via my company. I had my wife's name added to the account to maximise the CGT allowance. I sold some shares and as I hadn't filled a W8-BEN form for my wife, they withheld 6K dollars (30% approx).
I rang a phone number and they said that I need to send in completed document with a Medaillion Seal of approval from a banking institution, can't remember what it was called and most banks had't heard of it. I think its just a bankers stamp of some sort.
I have since sent in the completed form in my wife's name. (9 months ago) with this seal etc and explained the predicament.
They said I might get the money at the time or at the end of the year.
Nothing has come yet.
What a mess !
Anyone had this experience and know the best way to get my money back. I wouldn't mind so much if I had an actual Capital gain !
