VRT mileage check

Does anyone know if revenue check mileage when you go to pay VRT on an imported car - I am looking at an 07 car with about 2500 miles on it - just wondering do I need to bring it up to 6000kms or 6000 miles before presenting to the revenue - so as to ensure that no VAT is payable.

I paid VRT on 3 cars and they came out to view car 2 out of 3 times. So I really think it is pot luck and how busy they are on the day.

The 2 cars that they came out to see were 1 - 2 years old while the 3rd was 9 years old.

Thinking about it, the age of the 3rd car could possibly be why they did not come out to view the mileage.
