Anyone any experience with new Volvo S40..the SE model looks good value for money with min. extra price for a lot of extras incl. leather upholstery.I was looking at the 1.6 model..it is built on a focus platform but with the car being heavier , does it have the same go? I hope to go for the test drive when I get a chance.

Focus platform is good, although the new S40 is actually smaller than the old one.

I haven't driven one, but fear the 1.6 petrol might be underpowered. Volvos tend to be heavier than most competitors.

I think they look quite well and reports of the comfort levels are good.

p.s. Parkers like it, but the 1.6 petrol isn't even marketed in the UK. The Peugeot/Ford derived 1.6 diesel actually has more power, and a whole lot more torque.

I agree that a 1.6 is probably underpowered, resulting in poor fuel economy.

I haven't driven the new S40, but it does look small for it's segment.

BTW - The old S40 was pretty poor, so I'd beware unless it's improved significantly.

I haven't driven this car, but a note on the size - one of the guys at work took a test drive last month (he is 6ft with sturdy frame) and he said he could hardly get out of it.

Wouldn't be a problem for everyone though;)
