As I am 8 contributions short of the 260 contributions rule - can I take into account some of my U.K. contributions (26 years) in order to make some voluntary contributions towards a Irish contributory old age pension?
I want to avoid getting a pro rata pension if I can.

AFAIK, it must be Irish contributions that make up the 260. You might want to double-check here:
