Video shot in 'portrait' i.e. sideways... can this be corrected?

Some idiot (guess who) was put in charge of the digital camera at a family event.

He then shot video of some of the proceedings with the camera turned sideways (as you would with a still camera to get portrait shots).

Obviously not a great idea with video, the neck ache is fierce when you watch it on the telly .....!

My question:

Is there ANY WAY of correcting this?

Even if it had to be done frame by frame?

Even if I had to pay some kind of digital sweatshop owner to get his guys to do it for me?!

All responses most welcome.

Most video editing software will allow you to turn the footage to any angle you need, so it's just a matter of uploading the fotage and editing it. The only problem with that is that you are going to either have a smaller picture with bands on either side, or a full screen close up, and a visible loss of quality and chopped heads and legs.

Cheapest is to use windows movie editor, free with xp and later. On the left look for "Edit Movie" and click on "Show Video Effects", and scroll down the video effects window to "Rotate 90" and just drop it into your timeline. Sorted.

If you don't fancy doing it yourself then any videographer will do this for you... but it'll cost you.

Fantastic!

I mean, I know that there is no way to show it full width (well, even if there was, people would look pretty fat!), but even to be able to have it there on the screen, right way up would be great!

I might even be able to make out that I meant to do it that way ;)

Thanks Jack!
