my VHI policy for the family is due for renewal shortly , however i am retiring in December but not drawing down my pension just yet.

Does that mean i just let VHI know this and pay the full premium amount to VHI as the tax relief at source is now NA??

I am retired and have a medical insurance policy with Irish Life.

The tax relief is deducted from the cost by Irish Life so I only pay the net premium

Health insurance

If you have health insurance, you can get tax relief on the premium you pay to an approved insurer.

You do not need to claim the relief – it is given as a reduction in the amount of the insurance premium you pay. This is known as Tax Relief at Source (TRS).

It has nothing to do with your earnings or your income tax position.
