Can anyone tell me what is the story regarding income tax relief for the self employed?
I understand that medical expenses are deducted from the asssessment of profit but what about the cost of VHI itself?

Everyone gets automatic tax relief at source on their VHI policy - ie the premium you have paid is only 80% of the actual policy cost. Sin é.

Usually but not always. Employees whose employers pay private health insurance as a BIK subject to tax etc. at source (payroll) must claim the relief by way of an adjustment to their tax credits. It used to be covered on the Revenue website but I can't find it now...
