Vat/trade account help

Hi,

I am in the process of registering as a sole trade. My very small business is a curtain/blind make-up service. I don’t intend to turnover or earn anything close to the vat threshold, at least not in the first year or two anyway, so I won’t be registering for Vat initially. My question though is whether I will still be able to open trade accounts with local suppliers of curtain linings, blind components, etc without a vat number? I wasn’t foreseeing an issue as I expect to pay vat- and am fully aware that I can’t claim it back- but I’m a bit concerned now that this won’t be the case, and it will be imperative to my business. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you are not VAT registered, then you can not claim for VAT paid on your purchases as you say.

Whether local suppliers accept you as a trade customer is up to them. They will obviously charge you VAT on any purchases.

I can't imagine why they would not accept you as a customer because you have no VAT number
