Hi

I have a query about the USC charge on pensions.

When drawing a private pension in addition to a social welfare contributory pension, is USC charged on the total income (in the same way as income tax is applied), or on just the private, personal pension portion of the overall pension.

The private pension element will be drawn from an ARF/AMRF.

Many thanks

LT

There is no USC on Social Welfare payments.
However if the income drawdown is from an ARF and you are under age 66, there is still a liability for PRSI at Class S (4%). That is not the case if the income was an Annuity payment.
