Hi,
I've been offered a 1 year contract to a US firm- I am Irish and would be self-employed and based in Dublin but would have to travel to the US every second month for a period of one to two weeks where I would work from the office in the US. I would be be paying Irish taxes but am worried about being liable for US taxes - does anyone have any experience of this as I don't want to be locked up on US soil for evading taxes!

thanks

No experience of this so i can't help but i see that the US embassy website has a list of accountants based in ireland who prepare US tax returns. might be worth giving one of them a try for some initial advice.

my guess is that you would have filing obligations in the US

your other option might be to see if the tax advisors to the US firm you will be doing work for might help?
