Upskilling or diversfiying as an electrician

Could anyone suggest what else a qualified and fairly experienced electrician could do in light of a shortage of work in construction, without any industrial experience.
Any suggestions for upskilling or diversifying that wouldnt entail longterm or fulltime study and that might lead to some decent options, even part time in the near future? I have looked into the whole renewable energy thing and there doesnt seem to be the work there to justify the cost of the courses.
 
Get on to FAS (Baggot Street) about instructor opportunities, or the Institutes of Technology. There are shorter 'alarm installation' courses, that type of thing in addition to the 'craft' or apprentices. Maybe you could give an 'alarm installation'/DIY type evening course yourself, contact your local VEC? Probably a long shot but you never know.
 
How about Tech. By that I refer to the entertainment industry such as live shows and events. They always need electricians for health and saftey and power distro etc, and its easy to build you knowledge into a job in Sound or lighting especially.
 
Thanks for the suggestions, the tech side sounds really interesting. Any idea where to go about looking into that?
 
Ex-flatmate in similar situation many years ago - did a couple of courses in Filmbase (filmbase.ie - I have no affiliation at all) and made contacts through their courses & their database that allowed him to work in L.A. He loves what he does and has no intention of returning to Dublin in the near future.
