hi
how long must u be a PAYE worker before you are entitled to UB?i assume it depends on how much tax you've paid??any examples or guidelines?

All explained on the Welfare website:

Unemployment Benefit qualifying conditions
Unemployment Assistance qualifying conditions

There are several existing threads about other tax and welfare issues possibly relevant to somebody who becomes unemployed. For example see for details of Form P50 allowing an unemployed person to claim back tax previously paid as tax credits accumulate unused through the remainder of the year during unemployment.

thanks
i really don't get it off welfare site though
i've been self-employed for 12 yrs but my present circumstances have made it impossible to continue that.
i won't ,seemingly, get any benefits to help.if i worked paye(part-time)would i earn credits?
52 credits..does that mean 52 wks?
if i earned below my cut-off or tax credit Am i still earning credits towards UB?this is all new & complicated to me.
Thank U

Class S self employed PRSI does not cover UB benefits. You can apply for means tested UA though. Welfare and/or your local might be able to advise in more detail on you entitlements.
