Hi all, i've a bit of a specific question:

If a person were to graduate college (finish final exams) in May this year, and has a contract of employment to start in September, are they entitled to any unemployment benefits for the intervening months in the event that they can't obtain any summer work?

Any answers about yes/no, amount, from when etc, greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, you can. I think you'll need a letter from your 3rd level confirming that you have finished. You'll have to show evidence of having applied for jobs. Also, theres a huge backlog in the offices so your money might just come through when you are about to start your job in September .

Thanks legallady; hopefully it wont come to that, but just wanted to know my rights :)

you won't get benefit unless you've got the requisite number of prior weeks employment (stamps as was) you may get the allowance but that is means tested.
