UK Pension - summary updates

I applied back in March 2023 and paid my contributions in August 2024 as it took over a year for them to get back to me. Finally today I look online and it says completed. I qualified for Class 2 contributions. Shortfalls were from 2006 to 2024. I paid all monies owed and was told I would have to wait 50 weeks to get it updated online. I checked it weekly. Today its says completed on line but doesnt look like all the correct years are all updated. Also on pension summary the amount is incorrect.

In a nutshell the years 2006 to 2019 have not been updated , it says "we are checking this year to see if it counts towards your pension. We'll update your record when this is finished, you do not need to do anything".

2019 to 2024 years states "are full and it say "Self employment 52 weeks".

Has this happened to anyone, should I wait a few weeks more for it to be fully updated or have they messed up!! Very frustrating process. Am I just being impatient and expect that all should be done together or is this the norm.

thanks in advance for any advices!

'Self employed' is correct on their system, even if you weren't.

you are in the system & you've made your back payments, thats the most important thing right now.

forget about getting impatient, this is a once in a lifetime shot, so sit tight, check again in 6 months time.

I am in the same boat. Paid all back years but only 2019-2024 updated online. That was a few weeks ago and it hasn't changed but a few other posters said it took a few efforts to get their online record updated correctly.

its very strange, cannot understand why they cannot do it all together, must be different departments handling it!! Going to keep a tight eye on mine, hoping I dont have to ring them as that is another major effort!!! My brother's was updated all in one stage within weeks of payments so there seems to be no pattern at all! As DannyBoyD said earlier , we are in the system and that is the most important thing.

I paid for 18 years 2006-2024 on 18th October ‘24. I checked my national insurance record on the HMRC app last Friday and saw that years 2018 - 2024 had changed to full years. Years 2006 - 2017 were all marked ‘year is not full’. I called HMRC on 0044 191 203 7010 at exactly 8am yesterday morning and got through to a member of staff
in less than 5 minutes who amended my contribution record so that all 18 years are now full. I hope this helps.

Still haven't found out if certain years will be class 2 or 3. Sent additional information as requested, phoned a few weeks ago. They said no update and heard nothing since.

Just to give an update - rang them this morning at 8 am and got through within 10 minutes like sweetpea64 mentioned. Spoke to a lovely lady and she said the final stage was missed, basically like pressing a button to update it, she emailed the member of staff who processed mine and now I just looked at the App on my phone and all up to date. Happy Days ....delighted!

Hi
I'm in the same boat I.e waiting for all the years to be updated. Just first 6 at present. What number did you ring to get them to update all the NICs
Spider

Usually you can only pay back for 6 years NI contributions so that may explain why the previous 6 years are added to your record first. There must be another process to add the years back to 2006 I would think.

The HMRC number to call to update your national insurance record is 0044 191 203 7010.
Call at 8am on the dot and my experience is you will get through in 5 minutes or so.

I made a payment for 2006-2024 on 19th February. Rang Friday and lovely girl who answered said It’s still not showing on my account as being paid…. Should I be worried? I paid from my husband UK account and had to pay in 4 installments due to daily limits as it’s not a frequently used account. She said it could take 6 weeks to show and to ring back after 6th April. If not showing then they will investigate. Has this happened anyone else?

I paid my HMRC NICs at the end of October 2024 and appeared in my HMRC account last week. I paid the exact amount to cover the 18 years and they were allocated automatically without any phone calls. I assume that if you don't pay the full 18 years (or whatever is outstanding), you need to ring and spell out the exact years you want to allocate the NICs to

I logged on this morning and my record is now fully updated after the initial update of just the first 6 years a few weeks agao.

Thanks again to everyone of this thread for their help.

I helped a relative fill out the forms last year and make payments around the end of October 2024. The six years from 2018-2024 were updated last week. They phoned up to confirm the previous 12, which got updated that morning, and to ask for a receipt to be sent out. In hindsight, this may not have been necessary, but no harm. Big thanks again to all contributors, and DannyBoyD in particular.

I don't have any qualifications for it myself. I'm half starting to wonder if I shouldn't be making plans to find work in the UK for three fiscal years in order to buy the years going forward.

I made my NI shortfall class 2 payment online today with BOI. The total cost of buying back 18 years was £2968.25 or €3611.45. Incredible value. I would encourage all those still struggling with application forms to persist. It is a one in a lifetime offer. I will contact them in a couple of months to make sure the payment has been received and allocated.

I just listened to a recording of the Newstalk item on it the other day.
One tip that might be useful for some is to go to a Jobs and Benefits office in the North if you are unable to find your NI number.
Apparently they can access all the records and if you bring 2 forms of ID and have details of where you lived and worked they’ll find it for you.
2 friends have been struggling to get their NI number and this is their plan. They reckon it’s worth a day trip to Newry. We had a bit of fun finding our various addresses in London, google earth helped us there.

Yes, did that, suspect they might start to be overwhelmed soon but were helpful. Think if you have dob and time you were there approximation of street might do it. For me as we went through a few they said "stop go back" and I just had the street name, it wasn't the one I expected and it was about 35 years ago when I lived there!
