what is the best way to check uk marriage records around the 1980s ?

I don't have a date location I have is only London
Do you have a year ? Month? Approx location? / church / registry office? Names? Dates of birth?

I know you can do a 10 year search for divorce papers & it costs £60 or thereabouts; not sure if they do it for marriage certs.
Theres's another site called FreeBMD, it takes some time to trawl through it, so the more info you have the better.
