UB checked my credit history - I did not apply for credit

I received a copy of my ICB report. I have not applied for any loans or credit in years. I noticed from my ICB report that UB ran a credit check on me when my husband and I consolidated our two current accounts under my husband's existing account number. We use the account for savings only. My credit score is good but it was my understanding that banks could only run a credit check if you applied for a loan or mortgage?

ETA We do not have a credit card with this account nor did we apply for one.
 
A current account is considered a credit account as it has the ability to have an overdraft and the UB system definitely has a credit check when opening a new current account, people are regularly refused them because of it.
