Tuning TV to receive UK FTA TV stations

House is in town in Meath, where all houses have large aerials on chimney stacks pointed at NI to receive TV signal.

Two TV in house, both connected to aerial.

Both TVs receive both Irish and UK channels, normally.

Somebody did something to TV, not sure what.

I was called in to help re-tune the channels.


I went to set-up, then faced a choice of analogue or digital tuning, I chose digital tuning.

I did automatic digital tuning first.

It scanned various channels, I think from 21 to 60, and it found the Irish stations on various channels.

But no sign of the UK stations?

Then I did manual tuning, chose a few channels, still no sign of any UK stations.

Is there something I am missing?

Did both TVs lose U.K. channels or just one and the other is still ok? The normal setup last few years is aerial for Irish DTT and sat dish for UK free sat channels. With two connection on tv one screw on and one push on.
 
No satellite dish.

These towns in Meath have received television signals from NI for decades. No need for satellite dishes.
 
If it's both tvs affected then maybe the aerial shifted slightly or some new building is blocking line of sight to NI for you. Country setting only affects the channel ordering AFAIK.
 
The idea is to have, as before, a TV in each of two living rooms.

So the TV in question can't be moved.
 
You should try to retune using the analogue setting option.
Digital is for receiving Digital TV (DTV) signals.

The reason your area could receive UK channels for years is because the signals are analogue not digital.

You may need a Freeview tuner to receive digital channels.

Does your TV digital tuner support freeview ?

Also, Digital TV signals have far less 'bleed-over' from the UK than analogue ones so are harder to receive far from the border. You may need a booster if you really need to access Freeview channels.
 
Nothing to do with analogue, Uk has been digital for years, just a different encoder than ireland
