Hi all,
A bit of strange one here... my hubby just received this email? Spam?
Ive tried ringing the TRS line, but an automated machine keeps telling me that a fault exists and to ring later!

Any ideas?

Dear Mr XXX,

I have reviewed your file and there is a refund due for 2010 and 2012 for Mrs XXX. If you forward a current account number to our secure mail address,
trsadmin@revenue.ie make it for my attention I can process the refund for her.

Yours sincerely,

SPAM or better known as "phising"... anytime there is private information looked for...
"If you forward a current account number to our secure mail address"

Did you send in a "file"? Are you expecting such a response?

Hi Jazz,
Thanks for replying.
We got married early last year, and my hubby (as a first time buyer) registered for TRS on my property, so unless its something to do with that?
Also the TRS side of things was sorted nearly immediately.

I spotted that alright!
I think I will keep trying them on the phone! It just seems strange that my hubby would get an email about a refund due to his wife... why didnt they just email me?!
I'll keep you updated!
Thanks guys!

Are you jointly assessed? If the is the assessable spouse they would contact him

While the email address may be valid, just right-click or hover mouse on the address - to check whether the actual hyperlink is different to the text of the email address.
This happens sometimes in spam, just to be sure...

Even if it is legitimate, they should not be sending this to you. They have specified forms for such matters so I would believe it is a scam. Apparently the HM revenue has been hit with something similar recently.

Have they got both your name and your wife's name correct?

Do they quote your PPS number correctly?

If so, it's probably genuine.

Even still, you should not click on the link in the email but type the email address into an email so your email will be going to Revenue.

There are a number of spams going on with "revenue refunds" at the minute, I've had 2 mails in the past week but they were easily spotted as the email address was clearly not from the revenue

Hi guys,
thanks a million for all the replies.

I just copied and pasted the email as it appears in his email (I removed names etc). Actually in the email, they refer to me by my first name only?!?

I hovered over the email link and it does link to the proper revenue site.

Ive emailed them separately from my own email to confirm its authenticity, no reply yet!

I got similar email. Looked Realistic as had Revenue logo. Really think it is spam as there was incorrect spelling on next page!. Revenue never ask for account details and never send emails like this. I Deleted it. Check Revenue website think there link to info on these emails.

There is a notice on the revenue website from Monday that is probably referring to this scam:

[broken link removed]

Lads!
It legit! Got an reply via email from the original sender confirming all our details and a breakdown of calculations etc etc. So we are entitled to a refund, not a whole lot, but every little helps!! :)

It's a tough one for Revenue and the banks.

If they send an email, people probably think it's a phising email.

They could avoid this by telling people not to click on respond but to enter the valid address in a new email.
