Trojan Zlob on my laptop

I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, AVG and SUPERAntiSpyware on my laptop and was rewarded tonight with a pop up box which told me a Trojan was being downloaded. I ran the above and between them they detected Trojan Zlob. I 'healed' it but have some questions:

a) Should I have put it into 'vault' instead as I didn't see any deletion option?
b) I'm guessing from what I have read on the web that although I have ran the above and no threats were detected on the scans, the trojan is still somewhere on my pc and needs more removal tools etc?
c) Is it safe to even sign into the laptop, use this or any site requiring a password?
d) As from my previous posts I don't have any technical exp. of computers so is there any shop that I can drop the laptop into to have cleaned up? (based in Dublin).

Would appreciate any/all suggestions. Many thanks.
 
Hi this happened me before and i was tormented by it, it the end i actually googled it and found answers on yahoo somewhere,just type in how to remove Trojan Zlob???it looks very dodgy while its doing what it does but believe me it works. dont know exactly where i found the answers but it had posts from users who had used this way of removing it saying it waws the only thing that worked.all i can say is it worked for me, be patient and you will find it.You will also find lots of "Free downloads" promising to fix it for a small fee but it can be done without signing up to any of these,hope you find the answer there,best of luck let us know how you get on.

I'd be inclined to go to a computer advise site, to get some information to make sure this is off your computer. Often you may need to run the computer in safe mode, and delete nasties in that way (the websites will tell you how to do all of this, so don't panic), if you can't get rid of them using standard tools while the computer is in normal mode.
You may need to use several variations of tools to nab it. I've recommended http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ before, which I used to remove a trojan zlob.This has advise for generic removal, and also advise for specific infections. Just register, and go to the spyware removal section.Be prepared to be patient though, can take ages to get rid of these.
For future reference, there is a very nice little add-on that you can download to your browser, called McAfee siteadvisor: http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ff.html
which puts a little green tick beside all safe sites, and a red X beside dodgy sites.
If you are planning to download 'fixes' from the internet to remove this bug, I'd suggest that you put this add-on on your browser first, as many of the 'fix' sites are infected with spy-ware and nasties, and you don't want to make your problem worse. This tends to warn you in advance if they are bad sites.To put this on your browser(eg internet explorer/mozilla), you just have to go to that link, and press the cursor on the 'download' bit, for Mozilla firefox.If you are using internet explorer, there is a bit you can click to get it for I.E.

PS best not enter any 'sensitive ' stuff ie bank passwords etc on your laptop until you are sure this is gone..
PPS these sort of problems can be expensive to fix if you drop them into a shop. The bleeping computer website tells you what to do, in a step by step way, and often includes pictures of what the screen should look like, so you know you're doing the right thing. It is also free. There are many websites like this, but it is the only one I can personally recommend, as it is the one I use
 
Thanks so much for your replies Selfbuild and Nicola. I appreciate the time you took in writing out replies. I have started to download as per your notes Nicola and am just hoping that I'm doing it properly. I'll have more time at the weekend to go through the individual steps. Do you know if once the spyware advises that all scans are clear if I've successfully dumped it?

From my personal experience, the answer is, yes, probably (there's a straight answer for you!). I spent literally days getting rid of the Trojan Zlob I got, but once every scan ran clear, the thing was outed.
But to be sure, you can get someone to look at a thing called 'HijackThis log' on that website.(it's a program you download to your computer, full instructions are given, again including pictures so you know you're on the right track). This is (more or less) a list of everything running on your computer, and will show up any odd things that are running, including non up-dated programs and un-invited guests.
If you get someone to check this, it can take days for them to get back to you, but they do get back eventually, and will look through this 'log', and give you advise about what needs to be removed, if anything.

If you have managed to remove the trojan zlob successfully from your computer your computer should be behaving normally,normal speed, with no strange 'pop-up' messages etc appearing.

Once you're gotten rid of this zlob, there are a couple of things you can do to stop this happening again:

McAffee site adviser as before
Change your browser to Mozilla Firefox: ([broken link removed]) ,if you're using Internet Explorer , as it is much more secure+++ than Internet Explorer.

Put Noscript (http://noscript.net/getit) and Adblock plus(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865) onto Firefox.
These are add-ons that make it less likely for you to get infections on your computer from browsing.You put them on by going to the top of Mozilla Firefox, pressing on 'Tools', then 'add-ons' , then 'Get extensions'. They act like a pain first (well, 'no script' does, but once you've used it for a while, and marked what sites you are happy to use, it fades into the background)

Put these two programs on the computer:

As they stop things getting into your computer in the first place. They also do not slow down your computer (ie very light on resources)

PS have you got a firewall? This is very important.The one that comes with windows is not adequate (it will not stop internet traffic in both directions...). I use Zonealarm free

pps Ad-Aware doesn't seem to be as good as it was before at all, I stopped using it

PPS if any of the sites you are on are requesting money, it is because there often is a 'free-ware' and a paid version on the same page. Chose the free one.
 
I got this Zlob infection this week too, the first infection in living memory. AVG tells me it removed it.
