Trees for damp soil with poor drainage

Hi there,
Hoping to plant some trees at the end of the garden, however the soil is damp with poor drainage. Could anyone suggest what would grow well in this type of area?
Would love to plant weeping willows, does anyone know what type of soil they are suited to?

Weeping willow thrives in moist soil but will grow to about 40 ft tall so yu need a good sized garden.

Salix purpurea Pendula, the american weeping willow grows to 15 ft, so may be more suitable if you have a samall garden.

Willows - doesn't have to be weeping willow - would be good.

Or Alder if you want a more defined stem. if you've got acidity, boggy, soil Birch would also be good.

You could try an mixture for a mosaic effect, and focus on the ones that thrive best.

If you're into Biodivsersity keep the trees indigenous.
 
Willows would be great for your garden hoc83!! if you spent less time at the roses and more time at the trees, you'd be better off!!

helpful tip: always keep gate closed if you live in the country,cattle might cause alota damage!!

Just a little aside regarding Willows and cattle......

It has long been noticed by the farmers of old, that in the Spring, when the cattle were let out after overwintering indoors, that if there was a Willow tree in the field, the first thing they'd do was to start eating the bark off the tree.

And where does aspirin come from ? The Willow. Obviously the cattle were onto aspirin before mankind.

Thanks for that advice phkk!! :D It can be tough going with those roses, they demand so much time and energy!!
 
I have heard that willows can cause subsidence - so be careful about planting them too close to the house.
