We are insured under Vhi multi trip. We booked a flight with a connecting flight The airport for our outgoing flight was closed due to weather conditions. As a result all flights were diverted to another airport and we were sent to this airport. Our flight was obviously delayed in taking off and we missed our connection for the 2nd part of the flight. Both legs were purchased as one ticket. We were given a hotel room for the night with an evening meal paid for by the airline.
Are we entitled to any additional compensation on our travel insurance or under eu regulations.

Unless you can prove that the airline is responsible for the weather, you have no entitlement for compensation.

This obviously was a safety issue and the airport closed the runway to ensure your safety.

Adverse weather is one of the limited reasons an airline can use to avoid having to pay compensation for a delay of more than 3 hours.

VHI multi-trip policies pay out a set amount for every 12 hours of delay (including those caused by bad wether), read your docs to learn more about that and how to claim.
