Our house sale will be completed shortly. We are moving to New Zealand. We will have about 80,000 euro profit that we want to transfer in order to buy a house in there. Are there any rules and regulations, my bank was very unhelpful. What is the best way to do it.

Re: Transfering money to New Zealand

Hi doc5, I had difficulty a few years back when I wanted to transfer money to NZ - luckily a friend of a friend was a Bank Mgr & organised it for my funds to be transferred to an NZ bank, though I was only transferring about IR£2k at the time.

You could try searching some of the NZ bank websites - http://www.rbnz.govt.nz/nzbanks/0091622.html lists all the registered banks in NZ with their credit ratings. Some of the banks have details on how to before you arrive in NZ.

not sure of if/how you declare the money, but the NZ gov have some good websites which may help: [broken link removed] & http://www.immigration.govt.nz.

Good luck with move!

Brother used last year when transferring money to Oz. Also heard positive reviews about MoneyCorp. Check out the various Oz/NZ migration forums that are around.

Hi, Check your local bank and then call the Prestige Group in Dublin (from memory their no is 01-6686036, but a web search will bring them up, they are a property sales based company) and ask for the foreign currency department. Say you want a rate to transfer money to a NZ bank account and ask for a rate. If you are happy with the rate then you proceed with registering and authorizing the transaction. The funds will transfer quickly. We use them regularly and their rates are much better than the bank in our experience. If you have an AIB or BOI account look for their acount with that bank as it will save you on transfer fees from your own bank and the funds hit their account immediately.
Hope the move goes well. My wife is from NZ.
All the best Optimistic
