Seems like I made the right choice this year but if I'm honest I was gambling on when prices would fall and not that they'd go upThe fixed price plan from Airtricity will all depend on if and when rates fall as to whether it was the correct and cheapest plan to go for
This thread is about electricity and smart meters - not gas.they have added and estimated gas usage to the gas reading I provided
Very true @ClubMan it is about MY journey of activating MY smart meter and also the the different plans and providers I have and will useThis thread is about electricity and smart meters - not gas.
While it seems there are a number of old threads resurrected recently, just to chip in that Energia still do ask for Gas readings. I could be incorrect but my previous house gas meter was replaced as it was 20+ years old, not that it was being replaced by a smart gas meter similar to leccy. As per documented here. That when the bill does arrive in a week later, they have added and estimated gas usage to the gas reading I provided
It's not something I recall Bord Gais and don't remember it been so with Energia
I would agree with you here,There is no such thing as free electricity, or lunches.
I have a smart meter but I am on a 24 hour unit rate plan.

My monthly esb is around €68/€80 depending on the season. Please remain on it! By doing so, you're helping to subsidise my (very cheap) smart meter plan!
Lunch costs much the same no matter what time you buy itI have a smart meter but I am on a 24 hour unit rate plan.

I guess family make up determines alot on what you choose.all heavy duty use (washing machine, dishwasher, dryer, immersion and even a fair whack of Ironing) at the night rate and have seen a very substantial drop in cost. (Energia)
The roll-out program and associated targets are being driven by the Regulator, a body who aren't out to shaft you. ESB Networks also want to reduce meter reading costs. They came around to my house, and were rather assertive about installing it.
I declined, as the existing meter is not old, maybe less than 10 years and works perfectly, so don't touch what isn't broke.
But their assertiveness made me suspicious of motives.
Then you're almost certainly paying more than you need to for your electricity! If surge-pricing was to be introduced here, what makes you think rates for those on non-smart meters won't be hiked all year round? So, after reading about the UK, I decided to drop anchor and keep my dumb meter.
Wow. What a patronising ableist comment. It's job currently done by this local deaf guy, bless him.
In Ireland, electricity consumers will soon(ish) have access to "dynamic pricing" where the price varies from hour to hour according to fluctuations in the wholesale electricity price. I'm sure there will be some "surges", although there will be a cap on unit rates so they can't go sky-high as happened in Texas a few years back.in the UK, there is or was, talk about implementing "surge pricing"
