Time to think over job offers?

Hi guys

I have a few interviews next week and (fingers crossed, touching wood etc.!) was just wondering if in this climate, is it acceptable to ask for time to consider a job offer (e.g. a day or so). I would be massively surprised / delighted to even get one offer, don't get me wrong, but obviously there is one job I would prefer over another ideally, and don't want to be messing people around by accepting and then telling them I have changed my mind, so would it be ok to say 'thanks for the offer, could i possibly think it over overnight and get back to you tomorrow morning?' - or would that seem ungrateful in the current climate?

I'll probably get offered nothing so it will be immaterial anyway! :(:(

It seems your expectation is to be offered a job by the panel immediately after the interview, which seldom if ever happens IME. The normal run of things is to maybe get a call a day or so later followed by a formal letter of offer.

Best of luck.

It would be unusual [and perhaps even unprofessional] to offer a job on the spot. Chill about it - do a good interview - and take time to consider best option.

Thanks guys - I know it will take a day or two (at the minimum) post-interview to get any (big if i hasten to add lol!) job offers, I probably phrased my post badly. I really meant that if i am blessed / fortunate enough to do well at more than one interview (unlikely i'm sure!) and receive an offer for one of the jobs which i would least like, before hearing back from another employer, would it be acceptable to ask for a day or two to think it over (in the hope that i would hear back regarding the more preferred job in the meantime)?

Yes - perfectly acceptable.

Yes, perfectly acceptable.
If someone phones and offers you a job verbally, you say "that's great, I'm delighted to hear that, can you send me out the contract for me to read and review and I'll get back to you by X morning".

This is normal.
