Which would you think is better timber frame or block ?In thirty years time will people be complaining about Timber Frame or will it be ok. As if you look at all the old houses today its the roofs that is going not the block.

One of the main advantages of timber frame is that you can achieve very high levels of insulation in the walls, much higher than with block - improve energy performance and reduce bills. I was involved in a housing project a few years back where the client commissioned a study to see which passive measures were most effective for improving the energy efficiency of a building and using a high performance timber frame construction came out top.

You can achieve the energy rating you want regardless of method used - timber frame, block, ICF etc.The key is attention to detail.Have the project planned before you start and ensure that what you have specified in terms of insulation actually goes in.
Also give careful consideration to the design of the house - larger windows south facing, minimum windows north facing (if any triple glaze them), type of heat source (there are a million options these days) etc.
The advantage of blockwork is that it allows concrete first floors, hang items on the wall where ever you want and personally I
