I'm thinking of swithching but afraid of being left in the lurch with poor service, even though 5G BB seems to get good reviews in the press. Has anyone had any experience of using it for streaming?

Slightly old post but I'm looking at this (5G broadband from eir or Three) myself as a possible option for a family member whose only other practical option is Virgin Media cable broadband. No fibre in the area and phone line broadband will only go to < 15 Mbps. Anyway, there are some discussion/feedback threads on Boards in case they're of any use to you or others...

I had the installer out to set up the router in the optimum position. It didn't work: even though Three say I have 5G coverage, the signal was too weak -- obstructed by our neighbour's massive bloody tree -- and switched back and forth to 4G.

It was amazing when it was on 5G, but it couldn't sustain it.

Order cancelled. Axe on order.

I have been using 5G broadband with 3 for the past six months, and I have consistently experienced significant speed drops (ranging from 2 Mbps to 30 Mbps), especially during peak times. This makes it nearly impossible to watch TV or play online games.

Despite my repeated calls to customer support and following all recommended troubleshooting steps, including a technician's visit, the situation has not improved. The technician indicated that the low speeds are due to too many users connected during peak times, which is unacceptable given the service I was promised.

I have multiple screenshots documenting the low speeds. When I requested to cancel my contract due to their failure to provide the advertised service, they informed me that they cannot accept that request and that I would have to pay over €500 to cancel.

With a 5G antenna located less than 500 meters from my home, this experience is even more frustrating.

I strongly advise against this service, save yourself the trouble and AVOID 3

My experience, of 2 full years with 5G Three mobile broadband. It's excellent, and this is the simple router with sim card, no cables installation. I'm line of sight to a mast, probably 400/500 meters distance. I used to get speeds of 100mb down, 70 up give or take, but recently it's more like 170 down, 90 up! In the 2 years full years, I've had maybe 2 instances where it's completely dropped signal, but sorted very quickly by customer care with a full reboot of the router on their side (on/off my side did nothing).
I think when I ordered it over 2 years ago it was called 3 Silver 5G or something similar. Recently when I tried to order a new version, to avail of a 50% off rate for 1 year before reverting to normal price, they wouldn't give me the same package, even though I was already using it! Really pushing their cable version. I just stayed with what I had for €39 a month, and as the contract is up, I could leave with 30 days notice, but it's working flawlessly, so I'll keep it for now.

Try threatening and perhaps following through on a Small Claims Court case for their failure to perform as per the contract.
