S stobear Registered User Messages 521 6 Oct 2010 #1 I am hoping to get a straight answer to the following query. I have two opposing inputs and need some guidance as I am ignorant in this matter. If my brother is going back to college and is not eligible to claim his tax back (upto 1000E) can I make the claim assuming I pay the fee? Does it matter that I am not attending the course? Thanks

Relief is given at the standard rate (not the marginal rate). The person paying the fees receives the relief but if it's a contrived scheme to avail of the relief, relief should be denied.
