Health Insurance Thinking switching from Aviva to Laya

I upgraded from Aviva Health Starter last 31st December to Aviva Health Plan 01 and am serving the 2 years wait for pre-existing conditions but due to the excess of €125 when I was admitted to hospital last May for 2 days and also having to go as a day case twice and for another test as well it has cost me €500 for the excess I am considering changing to Laya Simply Connect Plus which is slightly cheaper and the excess is a one off €150 per year for inpatient and €50 per day case admission. Would this be classed as an upgrade and if it is how long would the wait be for upgrading, would it be 2 years + 1 year for the previous upgrade.

I think you would need to verify this with Laya, as its a grey area at times. The inpatient excess upgrade waiting time 2 yrs usually applies, but as shown in recent cases on AAM, the new day case excess applied straight away, no waiting applied. They will clarify exactly where you stand in that regard.

In general Laya don't treat excesses as upgrades, but it's best to check with them..
