There's a Serious Case for Abolishing the Toll

DNS is the problem as I keep pointing out
Without even trying you've kind of nailed it. As the late Maureen Potter once said "on the northside, we have space." So most the new homes built in Dublin are now on the northside, not even Swords anymore but Lusk, Rush, maybe Donabate, certainly Balbriggan. And some other small villages where there is literally a bus out on a Monday morning and another one back on a Friday evening (no really that was a thing). But the really big construction is now in Drogheda, Dundalk, Meath towns, Kildare towns etc. Some places with rail links but most of it not or links like "Rush and Lusk" where the station is actually midway between either town.
There's no "Sandyford Business District" or "Cherrywood" off the M50 east of Blanchardstown, and Blanch itself is now mainly a retail and transportation business hub - the boom in tech jobs left there after the late 90s, there isn't a lot new since. The bulk of the quality job creation is happening on an arc that runs alongside the M50 from Citywest to Cherrywood and extends inland to Sandyford and Blackrock (where there are more financial services jobs than in the IFSC). The huge Gateway plant in Clonshaugh that closed in 2001 lay empty for nearly 30 years. A large chunk of the jobs in Coolock where the riots were disappeared over the past 20 years - that was a small factor in those riots. If there are jobs created in Dublin city they are overwhelmingly in Dublin 2 and Dublin 4, maybe a few in D8 near the station. There is a huge mismatch in where people can afford to live and where they can find quality work. Perhaps the real answer is to treat the arc of industrial areas between Coolock and Finglas as a special area zone for development and try to shift to higher quality jobs there so people don't end up driving from The Naul to Leopardstown or Cherrywood or worse.

Great post @lff12. I drive North in the morning and south in the evening on the M50 and the traffic in the opposite direction is always far heavier.
