the warning beep on my pc has changed tone

For example, when I close Word, I get a beep to tell me that a particular document hasn't been saved.

This beep has suddenly changed tone. The new tone is more irritating than the last one.

I didn't do anything intentionally.

Which OS are you using? (vista, windows 7, etc)

If you have vista for example, go to "Control Panel" > "Hardware and Sound" > "Sound" > "Change system sounds" and here you can check/tweak any of the individual sounds.

For the word one, I'm pretty sure that's the "Exclamation" warning, but I don't have a copy of word at hand to verify.

I had looked for that and missed it.

There was a thing called "Change Windows Sound Scheme". It was blank so I just changed it to the Windows Default and I have the normal beep now.
