We have 20yrs plus of the "war on terror" and supposedly in the pursuit of "freedom and democracy".

And why not, those mad Mullahs and Ayatollahs have some warped screws loose. Although in fairness they have endured for centuries at the same time so perhaps we only get half a story?
That, and I'm a great believer in the rationality of the human race so I'm somewhat a skeptic of those who are incapable of diplomacy despite being ever-present in the Middle-East for 100yrs and more.

Afghanistan was handed back to the Taliban and since then no-one mentions the plight of the women and children anymore? Instead its the Iranian women and children we need to free.

Russian invaded Ukraine and any considerations other than Putin is a lunatic wanting to take over the rest of Europe are censored. Read UK news websites, French and German, and you will be in no doubt that Europeans are being prepped for more war.

It's an industry. War is an industry.

Ordinary working Americans are wondering how their manufacturing base was hollowed out. They jumped on the America-First bandwagon which, from the outside looking in made a good deal of sense.
Their industrial base wasn't hollowed out, it just moved from automotive road vehicles to munitions, warships, warplanes and aircraft carriers. Plenty of jobs and careers if you join the military.

That's all we are seeing here. A perpetual security industry induced by fear and power. The US spends horrendous sums relative to the rest of the world on military - for what purpose, if it doesn't get to use it, test it in real-time and replenish it?

America is a great country, great people. It is being destroyed by the lunatics that have long been in charge. Only with Trump in charge the mask is slipping.

This is the dumbest, stupidest, most illogical war ever - and it has come to the ordinary working people of Cork.

It is a lot worse. Beirut, one of the great cosmopolitan cities of the Middle East is being pummelled by Israeli war machine. 700,000 people reported as being displaced in Lebanon. It's a disaster what is occurring.

US Industrial output has almost doubled in the last 30 years. Employment rates have stayed the same. After the Second World War the US dominated global manufacturing. That had a lot to do with the fact that the manufacturing infrastructure of the rest of the developed world was destroyed after over a decade of war (if you count the Japanese invasion of China as the start of the global war).

No, defence accounts for less than 5% of percent of manufacturing jobs. Aerospace is often lumped in with defence but the vast majority of that sector is non defence.

It's been expansionist and imperialist for most of it's 250 year history. In many ways the period since the Second World War is the outlier.

Most people working in Stryker have a third level qualification. I've been in meetings there were I was the only person in the room without a PhD. If that's ordinary working people of Cork then fair play to Cork.

Absolutely not. They, along with the Soviets before them are mostly likely responsible for establishment of hardline religious zealots like the Taliban that not only withstood the USSR and inflicted defeat on them, endured a US military occupation for 20yrs and still managed to take back control.

God only knows how long it will be before the Afghan people oust the Taliban themselves.

One thing is for certain, the Soviet invasion and the US occupation served the interests of Afghani's very little.

I wouldn't know, we barely get to hear to their version of events due to censorship, one-sided media, and infantile chants like the above.

I would hazard a guess though, in the exact same way as imperialist and expansionist USA uses "imminent threat" and "threat of nuclear attack" etc as a reason to invade and attack sovereign nations of the world, I'm guessing imperialist and expansionist Russia applies the same reasoning only from its perspective?

The public can apply some pressure on politicians here, but that pressure would be better served if they were all exposed as being just the other side of each others imperialist and expansionist coin.

I'm reminded of my previous comment above by the comments of Spanish MEP Irene Montero in EU Parliament.

I doubt there will be any hangman's noose waiting, there wasn't for Ratko Mladić, buried with a hero's funeral, or have you forgotten about him and his cohorts and countless others ?
