The new Auris

Has anybody bought the new Toyota Auris; I am thinking of getting it myself later in the year and I am looking for some opinions; particularly, what is it like in comparison to the Corolla?
 
Was also thinking of changing my astra for one of these towards the end of the year so would appreciate what anyone has to say on the matter.
 
I'm a fan of toyota but personally I was quite disappointed buy it. I think the exterior styling is quite bland. Inside was also a let down given that the marketing hyped the fact that it was designed from the inside out. Yes the center counsel and high gear stick is nice but overall the interior is let down by the cheap plastics. The boys in the Irish Times didn't have too many great things to say about it a couple of weeks ago. Their summary was evolution as opposed to revolution and I have to say I agree. However, that said it will start ever morning for the next 15years without fail.
 
It will be reliable, but relatively poor dynamically, and a bit boring too.
 
Hubby had an Auris ordered since November. Took it for a test drive and loved it - I hated it on sight!! The interior is odd, the dash is like the interior of a racing car and the gear stick/handbrake position is very strange. Didn't like it at all. Going for an Opel Meriva/Zaphira now. Seem to get more bang for your buck with Opel.

did you look at the Verso?
We opted for one after I had driven the Zafira and found the Verso a lot better. I'm not a fan of the Opel interiors
 
Main reason that we were looking at Toyota was all the safety features - I've 9 airbags on my Yaris - we figured that the middle/top of the range model of the new car would be similar. Its not! The only differences between the base model and top of the line are alloys, steering wheel is leather with audio controls and fog lamps. All in all, very disappointed.

Loved the Carina E liftback - can't understand why they wiped it for a boring car like the Avensis. Feedback I'm getting (waffling to garages all day with the job:) ) is that the Auris hasn't been as well received as hoped.

Looking for a decent size, reasonably priced, mid-range family car - I won't consider Nissan and hubby won't consider Fiat - with Toyota out of the running, kind of limits our options to Ford or Opel. The Zafira is beyond our price range for anything other than base model - thought the Meriva looked a good compromise.

The Meriva is probably very practical inside, but I think the message Toyota are trying to get across is that all their cars are the same standard with respect to safety, regardless of spec.
I think th eproblem Toyota have come up against is that the new Corolla is such a big car, it has out sold the Auris many times. They are all over the place and the Auris is quite small. A frined of mine is looking for a family car at the moment and was getting an Auris until he got inside. He said it was too small and has opted for the Corolla instead. Much more for your money he reckons.
I think you'll find it hard to shift a Meriva in a few years. Have you considered a 2yr old Verso? If you look in the private classifieds there are plenty 1.6 Luna specs available and with them having 1yr left on the warranty, you cant go wrong. Thats what we just did....found a 2yr old Verso 2.0 Diesel Sol spec for €25k private sale. 14 months remaining on the warranty and it only did 12k miles. They cost €37k new. The car looks & feels like a new car.
 
Peter's looking for a hatchback/5door and feels that if he purchases an old model Corolla, he won't get as good a trade-in later. Currently has a Daewoo and its worth 1/2 nothing as both the dealership name has changed - Cherolet- and the make of his car Lanos to Kalos. Thanx for all your info tho.
 
Buy a Focus. Best selling car in the country currently, and for good reason. A 1.6 Zetec Connection is loaded with innovate kit.
 
the Verso wont change its shape for a good few years to come, even though they have released the new hatch (Auris) & Corolla.

As far as 5dr hatch is concerned, the Focus gets the thumbs up for me every time, and for a few grand more the A3 would be my choice.

as the owner of one, I can 2nd that :)

Incidentally, isn't the Auris not the new Corolla hatchback? And the Saloon will be still be called the Corolla.
