The cost of training and development?

I am apost-grad student, for an assignment i have to design and develop a six day training programme for a public service company, the costing section is quite a big part of the assignment, my question is what are the usual fee's consultancy firms charge for training programmes? training courses for example time management, communications, team working etc.

I am not being glib, but the best way to research this is direct approach to training providers. Many of them will give you an indicative quote by email.
 
I deal with training quite a bit and I think the more well known companies charge about 3,000 for a 2 day Time Management or Influencing Skills course. Each course would probably have about 8 people on them.

Presume when you are talking about a six day course that you mean 3 separate groups as six days for one group would be too long IMHO for the subjects mentioned. Time management is definitely only a 2 day course and something like Report Writing or Business Writing Courses are 2 days also.

ok thanks, thats very helpful, its going to be 5 or six days long, communications, teamworking , customer/stakeholderfocus, and time management and leadership. its for one group of 12-15 people.
 
I know its not your problem you are just doing an assignment but IMHO a training course that covers that much, with too many people (12-15) and goes on for too long is madness but that's just my view.
 
I know this is just an assignment but I agree with CC. About seven people at one of these soft skills training sessions is optimum.

In the assignment are you the provider or the client?

If you are the provider then make sure you understand the differerence between cost and price. The cost being the total cost of devleoping the course, all the preparatory work and paying for the person to deliver the course and costs associated with the venue etc. The price being the amount of money negotiated between the provider and the client.

thanks for the advice, in the assignment i am the provider of the course and i have to design and develop the training course in a tender to try and get the contract, it is supposed to be for the epa, the price section is worth a lot of marks , i have the hotel and administration costs made up, just the cost for actually providing the course and the evaluation cost is difficult. Thanks.
