Received this from 'Tesco Personal Finance' this morning. I rang Tesco and was told it was 'probably' spam.

Dear Valued Customer,

Tesco Bank is giving you a chance to shop for free at any of our tesco outlets or online by giving out free tesco vouchers for Christmas.

This offer is only for Tesco Credit Card and Tesco Savings/Loan owners and it will be valid to use until the 31st of December,2013.
CREDIT CARD CUSTOMER CLICK THE LINK BELOW

...Two links provided, one for credit card holders and the other for clubcard holders.

If you hover the mouse over the link, what URL is displayed? If it isn't something like 'http://www.tesco.ie/shoppingvouchers', then it's spam. You did the right thing Slim, if in any doubt, do not click on links. That alone can be enough to expose you to certain exploits.

For reference, in a URL, the two elements before the first single / are the most important. If it's www.tesco.ie, then, that's a valid Tesco domain. If it's www.tesco.asite.ie, then that isn't tesco, and will bring you to wherever the owners of the asite domain want to bring you.

Yeah, when I do that the credit card site is in australia. This is a legit firm but the full URL produces an 'unsafe website' warning. Similarly the other link is to a 'suspended' account. Good tip Leo, thanks. S
