Temporary contract question

I was hired on a temporary contract from Jan 2019 for 12 months. It was then extended for another 12 months and will be reviewed then. So that brings me to Jan 2021. I know you can’t be on a contract for more than 4 years but I’ve also read you can’t have more than 2 contracts.... would my extension be deemed a new contract or not. So my question is really do they have either have to make me permanent in Jan or let me go ?

You cannot be employed on more than 2 fixed term contracts over a period of more than 4 years. If you are then you are deemed to be permanent. In other words if you are on a 12 month contract then after 2 years you are permanent.
If you are on a 24 month contract then you are permanent after 24 months.
More info here.
