Hi

I have a B.A. in Arts(Social Studies) and am currently in full time pernament employment but thinking that teaching (Primary or Secondary) is what I would really like to do in life.
However, in the Leaving Cert I only got a D1 in Higher Irish.
Is there any way around the Irish short of repeating the Leaving Cert exam.
I do want to study in Ireland and perferably 'part time'.

You dont need Irish for Secondary, but It's really tough getting on a H.Dip for Secondary and courses are full-time. You need to get plenty of subbing experience - these give you extra points on your H.Dip application. You'll need to get your degree approved by the Teaching Council - . I guess PSHE is the subject area most relevant to your degree, it's a new area on the curriculum but I should try and add another subject - how's your maths! It's tough getting FT permanent job at Secondary level if not a shortage subject like maths, so expect to be lurching form one subbing job to another.

You could consider teaching for the VEC or Youthreach, get your foot in the door and then look at the new PG Dip in Education at DCU - this can be done PT but it's aimed at those working in education who are not qualified.

Primary teaching can be studied at Hibernia College by DL www.hiberniacollege.net but again get some work shadowing experience etc and anyhting to show you interest with young people. They really want to see that you are motivated and teaching is a well though out career. You'll need to sort out your irish, look at NUI Maynooth Dioploma Sa Gaelige or doinf Leavng Cert irish again. Any degree will do for Primary. FT permanent jobs should be in reasonable supply. If you are a chap you'd be in demand as there are so few on Primary teaching.

Thank you for all of that! Thankfully my maths are pretty good!
I just didn't know where even to start in looking at courses, so will look up those mentioned, must also look up teaching council.
Thank you.
