My son will attend a private 3rd level college at a cost of 5500e can I claim tax relief on same

I'd be much obliged if some one could offer an opinion on the changes to the tuition fee relief this year. It seems a little sneaky that the colleges have not advised students and prospective students of these changes.

Why should the onus be on the colleges to tell u that the IMF/EC/ECB are responsible for these changes.

The new rules are set out here
http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it31.html

The key elements are that the first 2k in reg fee/contribution fee is NOT allowable at all and on normal fees the first 1k is disallowed.

The first means that if u have >1 child in 3rd level then there is some relief
