I am paying 1100 rent for the past 2 years to a private landlord. I earn approx 54,000, roughly how much extra am I worth if I claim tax relief on the rent. Thanks

You can only claim the rent relief after paying it. So you can claim for last year with your P60 for that year and get a refund.

I don't believe this is true.

Once claimed the relief is included as part of your certificate of tax free allowance for the following year (be sure to notify revenue if your rental situation changes), or at least it was for me.

When I originally claimed it I was issued an updated certificate to cover that year and certainly didn't have to wait for my P60 for that year to claim back the money.

Yeah - that is wrong. You can get the credit added to your statement of tax credits "in advance" rather than just claiming "in arrears" if you qualify for it.
