understood tenants received tax relief on rental payment. Can anyone advise regarding procedure. Assisting family member and cannot see option on his revenue.ie online account

Are they in receipt of rent or paying it themselves?

No tax relief any more if you are paying rent. You can claim 75% of mortgage interest if you are in receipt of rent.

Yes they are paying it themselves. When did this type of relief stop ? Can they claim for prior years if they have proof of payment

Were they renting on December 7th 2010?
If not, then no they can't claim back anything.

Yes they were renting on 7th December 2010 and continue to rent at same location. They never knew any relief available.

They can go back a few years I think. But it won't be much if anything at this stage. Call revenue would be your best bet.
