Tax refund for medical expenses abroad

Hello,

I will be going on holidays to Italy (where I'm from) in September. Me and my (Irish) wife are thinking of getting a full medical health check there (blood, ECG, chest Xray, hearing, etc etc.) since the price for the same private health checks in Italy costs roughly half of what it costs in Ireland. We cannot claim any tax refunds in Italy as we're resident in Ireland but I wonder if we can get the 20% tax refund in Ireland on the cost of a health screen in Italy ?
We will still do it in Italy even if we cannot have the 20% refund in Ireland: if we did it in Ireland our Irish Life Health Policy would cover up to 200€ each. The remainder is tax deductable in Ireland @ 20% but still it would be a few hundred €€€ cheaper in Italy even without any refunds but it would be good if we can get the 20% refund in Ireland...

Thanks !!!

As this is a preventative check-up not tied to particular medical advice or diagnoses am not sure it would be that straightforward that it’s 20% tax deductible

For what it's worth...
Please note this service qualifies for tax relief.

Yes but the op is asking would a health check from a clinic abroad qualify for 20% tax relief.

If a health check/screening here is allowed then why wouldn't one abroad when other qualifying medical expenses abroad are allowed?

I would certainly submit it and let Revenue decide. I've claimed relief on foreign medical expenses before but not a health check/screening.
