Tax implications of working in the UK

Hi

Looking for some guidance please. Victim of the recession and rather than sit gloomily on the dole I reluctantly went to the UK and obtained a job, i have a mortgage and bills to pay. I have a mortage that I couldn't cover even if I could rent out my house like so many others. Prior to this I was an upstanding private sector citizen working long hours, paying higher tax rates for 10 years and paying my way for advanced degrees. What a mug I was!

The job involves 75% travelling outside the UK (its in the job spec for any doubters) so the UK has already confirmed in writing that I am non resident for NI contributions. My question is am I liable to Irish tax and NI on my non Irish earned income. Its my salary and sole income, I'm not some exotic tax refugee. I have been told I could become a fiscal nomad from a UK advisor because I will not be in either country long enough (a lot less than 183 days more like 100 max in the UK and max 5 days in Ireland) but I cannot afford to make a mistake. The company has no connection, office or income in the Republic. I don't want this lifestyle but its the only job I could get.

Or if as I understand I may need to declare my rental income here on my home to the Irish tax authorities (which I will do) do I have to pay Irish income tax and NI on my overseas income.

Lookign for some friendly helpful advice, thanks.

You have the potential to minimise your tax - but you really need professional advice.

re UK - if you spend regularly 91 days or more in a year this could lead to being resident there - so you need UK tax advice.

If you leave Ireland and break residence, you as a non-Irish resident will have to pay taxes and declare your Irish source income - your Irish rental income, and will not be taxable on your UK income. However, you need to make sure you actually break Irish residence - but it sounds like you will.
