Hoping someone can help. I am thinking of moving abroad for a couple of years to earn in a better salary low tax environment job. However, my wife and kids would remain in ireland. As we are currently assessed as one, would all of my overseas salary be subject to irish tax, as i could technically be still res, ord res and domiclied being married?

Currently the wife has no income, so all cash saved would be sent back home.

Thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.

You could opt for separate assessment.

If you are away more than 186 days in the year you will not be resident in Ireland.

If the country you go to has a double taxation agreement with Ireland any tax you pay there will be a deduction against any Irish tax due.

These are just thoughts as you asked for and maybe a basis for further investigation for you, please don't take it as reliable advice.

It would be worth checking as well if it is too late now to seek separate assessment for 2016.
