Quick query re tax credits. My parent is in receipt of personal tax credit, employee tax credit and age tax credit. They are a widow with no dependent children Should they be in receipt of a tax credit for this that is worth more that the personal credit of 1700?

Your parent should get an extra €540 in the circumstances you describe I believe:

From the site:

You are a widowed person or surviving civil partner without dependent children

In the years following the year of death, you will get the Widowed Person or Surviving Civil Partner's (without dependent children) Tax Credit. This is €2,240 in 2022."

If this state of affairs has persisted for a few years, your parent should look at the previous 4 years tax returns on My Account or ROS (if applicable) to get the situation corrected.

An elderly relation is in a nursing home and in receipt of the fair deal which pays portion of her fee . She pays her share from of aprprox. €3000 from her savings/pensions on which she pays income tax .
She has got tax relief on her first months payment, paid Dec 2021.
My question is : is she entitled to claim on every months payment ?
