Tax Credits for Parents

Hi,

I am looking for some advice in relation to tax credits.
I live with my partner and we are going to be having a baby this year - Both of us work but we are not married.

Are we entitled to any extra tax credits because we will have a child or will we continue to be taxed as single people - but because I am living with my partner I have read that I would not be entitled to the single parent tax credits.

Can someone please let me know what the story is. Could we get tax credits etc for the child if we were married?

No tax credits for childen unless
- child is incapacitated
- parent of the child is not co-habiting or married
There are no tax credits for children of married parents.
In your situation you are treated the same as married parents, i.e. no tax credits for children.
 
Yes you will be still be taxed as single people with no extra credits for child.
So if one gives up or curtails work there will be no transferring of tax credits.
That only applies to married people

I am and have been claiming tax credits for my child from a previous relationship for some time now. I am thinking of moving in with my new partner and wondered if anyone knows if i have to give up these credits even though she is not the childs mother???

On another note, if anyone has more info? Whilst venting about the amount of maintenence i pay every week and christmas, school etc a friend of mine told me that there is an allowance of some kind for parents who have court-appointed access to their child(ren) to the tune of about €25 per week. I cant seem to find anything baout it online so if anyone knows that would be great.
