Tax credits for new baby

Hi guys
Some people have said to me that i should register to get extra tax credits for my 10 month old baby. Haven't a clue how or where i should do this, do i just ring the tax office? any help appreciated from a rather clueless new mammy!!! thanks

Hi there is a specific credit available for one parent families not for the actual baby - you didnt state your personal circumstances

However if you do not qualify then unfortunately you get nothing!

There is also a Home Carer's Tax Credit, where one parent is a stay at home parent, or works part-time (earning < €5,080).

Sorry should have stated that i am in a relationship with the father! thanks for advice, do i still qualify for some extra credit?

You should qulaify for the home carers tax credit as mandelbrot kindly pointed out

the criteria is as follows:

Conditions to Qualify

1. The couple in a marriage or civil partnership - must be jointly assessed to tax - it does not apply where couples are taxed as single persons
2. Home Carer must care for one/more dependent persons
3. Home Carer's income must not exceed €5,080 for the tax year.
