So my only income for 2024 was bank interest and as the gross amount exceeded €5000 I have to file a tax return. I suspect that it probably isnt but can anyone confirm for definite that my personal tax credit is not allowable against DIRT? Also is DIRT refundable under the Charitable Donation Scheme, no?

Yes your personal tax credits can be used to reduce or cancel out your dirt tax.

I recently checked this out on form 11.

I entered a large amount of deposit interest and no other incomes.

The dirt tax calculation was reduced by the 2k personal tax credits

No and no. Income tax only for both.
When declared on a tax return, deposit interest is subject to Income tax @ at the same rate as DIRT, with a credit for DIRT already paid. So personal tax credits apply to it like other income tax.
