Hi, I have just returned to work after maternity leave( 8 months). Our company pays us 11 weeks when we leave and the remaining 11 weeks when we return. The question I am asking is that I am due this 11 weeks and also a months salary. Will I be screwed on tax? I have returned to work only working 4 days which will bring me into the lower tax?
Thx

What exactly does your company pay you while out on maternity leave?
Does it pay your salary in full less the maternity benefit?
Your monthly credits and Std Rate cut off points should leave you in roughly in the same position. As you were off for approx 34 weeks you have unused credits so you may in fact get most of the months salary tax free. As this is the last month of the year any mistakes cannot be fixed. If you do pay tax on the full amount ask the tax office for a balancing statement in the new year. Ask for one anyway.
Don't forget to claim any medicial expenses that you may have paid for during the year and they was not repaid or covered by VHI BUPA etc. This is done on MED1 form.
