I'm looking for advice on tarmac.
I've been looking at this site. http://www.pavingexpert.com/tarmac01.htm
in it, it talks of a sub-base, base, and wearing course.

I already have a builders drive, I think it's 4inch down with a layer of 804 on top in place so that covers the sub-base.

I have one quote and are waiting for a few more to call, but the quote given is fairly thin on detail. 700yrds sq of 2 inch for 9000.

My questions are:

1. do tarmac contractors put in a seperate base course / wearing course or do they just put in a single course ?

2. Does this price seem reasonable ?

3. Can anyone recommend a good contractor in the Limerick area ?

4. Finally, I am concerned about the delivery of oil, the oil tank is at the end of the garden, over 210 ft from the road, so till now the truck has been able to drive to the back of the house and run the hose the rest of the way (say 100ft).
With tarmac, Is that thickness sufficient enough for the oil truck to not make a mess of it. or should I go for asphalt (am I correct in saying it's stronger) ?

Have read them and others but am looking for more info than are in those posts, esp about thickness with the oil truck.
 
Updated - FYI
(Limerick area) reputable installer.

my best quote is : 8250 for 700 yrds2 (585 m2)
10 mm to a depth of 2 inches.

he said that 10mm is what most people install, which is not what others are saying in other threads - am I being conned ?
 
For Limerick there are only 3 contractors i'd recommend,
1 - Tim Mcauliffe Bruff
2 - John Wiley Kilmallock
3 - Seymour Brothers Killaloe

I had mine done by Seanie Woods from cashel (Friend of my father) for an area a bit less than yours for €6500 (friend of da) but Tim's quote was €8000, my next door neighbour got Seymours and i'm so jealous of his, it cost €8500 and it's perfetly level and a good quality macadam from Kelly's of Fantane. It's the hardcore base that's really important mine is at least 10 inch's in places (to level) but on average 5, and 2-3 inchs of macadam it's fine, no weeds.
 
How about Tar dust as an alternative to Tarmac. I've seen it installed in a builders yard where there is lots of forklift traffic and not a mark on it.
Basically its similar to 804 and it is steam rolled in to get an even finish.
I'm not sure on prices but its an option to consider
