Taking the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead

It worked out well.
The ferry out last Wednesday at 7.30 am left on time.
I had paid for the lounge and I got a seat up at the front with a great view.
I did prefer the ferry to flying. Not constrained to a seat. Able to wander around. And not trying to pack a week's clothes into a suitcase but able to put whatever I wanted in the boot. Rain gear, walking boots, etc.
No complaints at all.

I didn't see anyone being sick.

I was due back at 17.15 on Monday from Holyhead.
A week before they sent an email to say that they had changed the time to 16.45 - no problem with that.
I took a detour to Leeds on the way back and was conscious of the time and traffic and possibility that I might take a wrong turn, so I didn't stop for lunch which I would like to have done.
Got to the ferry check-in queue at 15.30 and there were a lot of cars there already.
Then Irish Ferries sent a text to say it wouldn't be departing until 17.45 which was annoying. They knew well ahead of time that the ferry was delayed. If they had sent the text an hour earlier, I would have been less rushed. A minor annoyance in the overall scheme of things.
It departed after 6 pm.

The Lounge was €20 extra each way. It was worth it. A great view from the front. Free food and drink. A free newspaper. Priority boarding - but not priority disembarking. Though it wasn't busy so I suppose the ordinary cabin would have been fine.

I spoke to a few people who just showed up and bought a ticket for themselves and their car. They were flexible in their travel arrangements. I thought that was interesting. But then it was probably much cheaper to book in advance.
